The Biden administration in the US has restricted travel from India, due to the gigantic surge in corona virus cases in the country. On April 30, President Biden issued a proclamation restricting entry into the United States of certain non-immigrant travelers who have been physically present in India. The new restrictions are effective from 12:01am eastern daylight time on May 4, 2021.
What you need to know about the new restrictions and who are affected with them
The complete details about the proclamation have been posted by White House on its website. The administration did not ban the flights from India to the USA but announced travel restrictions on entry for non-immigrant category visa holders along with some exceptions. The proclamation said that “ Given the determination of CDC, working in close coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, described above, I have determined that it is in the interests of the United States to take action to restrict and suspend the entry into the United States, as nonimmigrants, of noncitizens of the United States (“noncitizens”) who were physically present within the Republic of India during the 14‑day period preceding their entry or attempted entry into the United States.”
Who is allowed / restricted to enter United States from India
The travel ban won’t apply to US citizens or permanent residents and their spouses. There are many other categories who might qualify for exemptions including any noncitizen who is the parent or legal guardian of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, provided that the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident is unmarried and under the age of 21, humanitarian workers, certain journalists and academics.

Are flights still operating between the India and USA
Air India and United Airlines are currently operating direct non-stop flights between the USA and India. United operates direct flights from Delhi to Newark (New Jersey), Chicago, and San Francisco. Air India also flies to 5 destinations from India to the US including New York, Chicago, Washington DC, New Jersey and San Francisco.
However, the airlines may reduce the frequency of its weekly flights between the two countries. Air India has issued revised travel guidelines for entry of Non-citizens for USA on its website. CLICK HERE
The airlines already announced on Twitter curtailing schedule of many flights from Delhi and Mumbai to its destinations in the US.
Traveling from Amritsar to the USA
Passengers can travel from Amritsar on Air India flights via Delhi to its destinations in the USA. The airline connects passengers on its evening flight departing at 10:50 pm from Amritsar to Delhi, conveniently connecting passengers to its flights from Delhi to the US.
Qatar airways also connects passengers from Amritsar to many of its destinations in the US. The airline operates 3-weekly flights from Amritsar to Doha on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. From April 29, Qatar now requires the COVID-19 negative report for testing done within 48 hours instead of the 72 hours.
United airlines also offer connecting flights from Amritsar to Delhi on its Star Alliance partner Air India and codeshare partner Vistara.
