Amritsar/Vancouver (Team FlyAmritsar):- The Canadian Government on Friday i.e. May 21st 2021, announced the extension of current suspension on all scheduled and charter flights arriving into Canada from India & Pakistan until June 21st 2021 to help control the spread of new variants of the novel coronavirus.

The Canadian government had first announced on April 22nd 2021, a ban on all scheduled and charter flights arriving into the country from India & Pakistan, as the COVID-19 cases in India & Pakistan were on the rise.

The Canadian Minister of Transport, Hon’ble Omar Alghabra announced via Twitter, “The temporary flight restrictions on India and Pakistan have significantly reduced the risk of importing cases and new variants. We are extending these temporary measures to protect the health and safety of Canadians.”

Notably, the Canadian flag carrier, Air Canada on May 13th 2021 had announced that it will be extending its suspension of flights between India and Canada until June 22nd 2021, before this latest official announcement. The airline does not operate any direct flights to Pakistan.

Due to this extension, Air India is also not going to be able to operate its direct flights from Delhi to Toronto & Vancouver.

The ban applies to direct flights from both the countries. Passengers can still fly to Canada from India, but will need to arrive in Canada via a third country. These passengers will need to produce a negative result on a COVID-19 test taken at their last point of departure before being allowed to enter Canada.
