“Considering the prevailing situation in UK, the government of India has decided that all flights originating from UK to India to be suspended till 31st December,” said the aviation ministry after a joint monitoring group on COVID-19 met this morning to discuss the mutant coronavirus that has spread rapidly in the UK, sending cases rocketing within days.
Due to the change in the status of the covid virus in the UK, passengers taking Air India flight #AI1190 from London Heathrow Airport on December 21, 2020, arriving in Amritsar at 12:05am on Dec 22 will undergo mandatorily RTPCR test, which will take a minimum of six hours.
Therefore, the passengers of the said flight are requested to wait for the arrival of the test report which may take approximately 6-8 hours. Passengers will have to stay at the airport waiting room during this time.
In a tweet, the airport administration informed administration also informed that the persons coming to receive these passengers are advised to reach airport adjusting time by adding six hours and co-operate with the administration.
Due to the ban on flights, flights from Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport to London Heathrow and Birmingham are cancelled till midnight of Dec 31, 2020.
In a tweet, tweet, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said, “Considering the prevailing situation in UK. The Government of India has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India to be suspended till 31st December 2020 (23.59 hours).”
The UK to India transfer via a third country will also not be allowed to travel as per the detailed circular issued by Indian regulators.
India has become the 10th country to suspend travel to and from the UK over the new coronavirus variant detected in the country after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that an infection was fast spreading in southern England.
