The Italian carrier, Neos, after British Airways and HiFly Airlines has now become the 3rd European carrier to land at Amritsar Airport during the COVID-19 pandemic. This comes after a continuous high demand for non-stop flights between Amritsar and Rome & Milan in Italy, since late last year.
Neos Air on Friday i.e. September 9 2021, operated a special charter flight from Amritsar to Rome, with its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The airline also become the 3rd carrier after Singapore’s Scoot and India’s Vistara to operate 787-9 Dreamliner to Amritsar.
The Dreamliner with 359 seats took off from Amritsar with 356 passengers including 18 passengers in the premium cabin.
It is notable that from September 2020 until March 2021, the Indian low cost carriers, IndiGo and SpiceJet had operated over 250 special charter flights between Amritsar and Italy. This even made, the Indian national carrier, Air India to reroute its non-stop Delhi-Rome flights as Delhi-Amritsar-Rome in February 2021.
While the Italian Government has recently relaxed restrictions on passengers arriving from India, Air India has once again now resumed its direct Delhi-Amritsar-Rome flights. The direct charter flights by IndiGo and SpiceJet are also being scheduled in the upcoming days.
According to the schedule available from some sources, Neos Air will also be operating special charter flights from Amritsar to Rome & Milan in Italy in the upcoming days.
Amritsar currently is not the Point Of Call (POC) for Italian carriers in Bilateral Air Service Agreements between India and Italy. Due to this non-inclusion, no Italian carriers could operate scheduled flights between Italy and Amritsar.
With these flights by Neos being non-scheduled, they are currently operating these charter flights from Amritsar to Italy.
