At the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport Amritsar, rapid PCR report came positive during corona testing of two passengers on flight from Milan, Italy. Both the passengers are mother and son. The flight from Milan, Italy arrived at Amritsar Airport at 9.25 am. After the rapid PCR report came positive, both were shifted to the isolation ward of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH), Amritsar. After about six hours, both patients will be tested again.
According to Amritsar Airport Director VK Seth, the flight from Milan, Italy landed in Amritsar late Tuesday night. Subsequently, rapid PCR tests were performed on all passengers inside the airport as per the prescribed protocol. Of these, 2 passengers reported positive. They are both mother and son.
The airport authority immediately notified the health department after the report of the rapid PCR test was positive. A team from the health department has sent both the passengers to the isolation ward of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. Samples of both patients will be taken again after about six hours, in which mutations will be examined. If this mutation is found to be related to Omicron, samples will be sent to Patiala Medical College for genome sequencing.
According to Amritsar’s Assistant Civil Surgeon (ACS) Dr. Amarjeet Singh, the age of the child is 10 years while the age of his mother is 39 years. Till now samples were being sent from Amritsar to Delhi for genome sequencing, but now this test has started in the lab of Patiala Medical College. It is expected that the report of both the patients will come in 48 hours.
